SEO: Is Content Still King?

It’s long been acknowledged that in the land of search engine optimisation, content is king. Google and the other search engines look for around 200 algorithms when indexing a site for relevance, with content being high up on the list. From a search engine optimisation point of view, the amount of content that a website has is key to deeming it relevant. The content must be distributed evenly and logically throughout the site, it must be relevant to the subject matter of the site and to the keywords as listed in the meta tags, and these keywords should be utilised well in the content.

Content that works for SEO should be rich in keywords, but keyword density is a balancing act. Too low a keyword density and the content you have on the site may not be picked up by the search engines as relevant; too high a keyword density and you could be seen to be spamming, which will of course render your SEO efforts redundant.

While it seems that for now the adage ‘content is king’ still rings true, static content is only of limited use when thinking about search engine optimisation. Regularly refreshed content will lead to your site being deemed an ‘authority’ site by the search engines, which will help you move up those all-important rankings. Along with a deep site with effective internal linking, search engines love refreshed content when indexing.

There are many ways you can keep your site’s content fresh and new and ready to be regularly indexed. Blogs, social media inserts and RSS are all great ways to add new regular content to your site. You can also add a news section or a press room to your site and add regularly refreshed content to these sections.

Perhaps it’s time to revise that adage: ‘Refreshed Content is King’! Find out more at www.TopPosition.co.uk

Our award-winning in house team of online journalists and SEO specialists will research and write your press release. Available as both a one-off and recurring service, your press release has no word limits and is optimised for media publication.

Setting out your new product, boasting about a client win, introducing an innovative new service or announcing your presence at a major event, our press release service is tailored to your individual needs.

If things are quiet on the news front but you would like to maintain contact with the press, or even introduce your company to the media for the very first time, Top Position understands news values and will present a series of ideas for your consideration.

Our team will brainstorm the best way to secure column inches for your brand and then suggest press release titles, themes and approaches. As with your own company news, these ideas can be used as stand alone news items or play a role as part of a more sustained campaign.

Walking the walk and talking the talk is easy with Top Position. Just tell us about your product and service and let our team do the rest. We’ll research current trends, search out relevant facts, figures, studies and stats and wrap it all up in a media friendly package.

Presented in a custom designed press release template, Top Position compiles a bespoke contact list specifically for your news item. For each item we issue to the media, an up to date list will be created to ensure your PR reaches only the most relevant of contacts.

Delivered directly to the inbox of each major national, regional and local newspaper and magazine, our news hounds will go the extra mile to sniff out specialist publications, relevant foreign press, online web sites and social media sites.

A series of press distribution sites are used as standard to ensure publication in RSS feeds – giving a wider net of coverage – and Google news alerts. If relevant, your press release will be given its moment in the spotlight at high traffic sites such as Google Base, MySpace, Facebook and Squidoo. All relevant forums and online business communities will also be presented with a copy and media requests carried out and followed up on your behalf.

Nosy by nature, our team will also track who reads the press release and where it’s published, giving you a fully accountable tracking service. Scouring the web, you’ll receive both real time notifications and periodic resumes of published links and media exposure. These are presented in a report format and can be discussed with your account manager at your convenience.

No Fee, No Commitment Yahoo Kicks Off Summer Season Of Offers At Top Position

As part of a summer season of special pay per click offers, PPC and search engine optimisation agency Top Position has announced a limited run of free Yahoo pay per click management.

Manned by experienced Yahoo search marketing managers, Top Position’s special offer is available to both existing account holders and advertisers keen to try the search engine’s own brand of pay per click advertising for the first time.

“We choose Yahoo management to kick off our summer offers as the platform has undergone some changes recently,” said operation’s director, Rebecca Appleton. “With the introduction of its click fraud reporting system, Yahoo has really staked out its position as an advertiser-friendly engine. Along with renewed interest in Yahoo from MSN and lots of headlines encouraging web users to log on and see what the fuss is about, our PPC management team has reported increased traffic and an increase in conversions.”

Offered to companies new to Top Position, advertisers signing up before the end of the week will enjoy free Yahoo pay per click management for life. There’s no charge for the service, leaving the advertiser free to dedicate all of their budget to paying for clicks.

Search Engine Optimisation Service Given A Boost With Social Media Extension

Online media agency Top Position’s search engine optimisation service has been given a boost this week with the extension of its social media programme. A slew of new book marking, blog and networking sites has been added to the social networking activity carried out by the SEO firm on behalf of its client base.

“It’s vital for any company serious about their search marketing to maintain a comprehensive social media presence,” said department head, Rebecca Appleton. “As a forum for personalising a brand and engaging with the client base, social networking applications are second to none. However, to get the most from them they should be used as part of a wider strategy and not regarded simply as a link building opportunity.

“After months of research we have drafted these social sites in to our search marketing offering in order to foster worthwhile online communities for the brands we represent. Each of these spaces has been hand picked with a view to adding real value to our client’s online activities.”

According to a study by HitWise UK, a significant portion of traffic delivered to UK retail sites in 2007 originated from the top 20 social networks. Harnessing the power of this traffic is at the forefront of the Top Position service. In addition to the new social media services added, a core of social media experts manage a series of initiatives for clients including maintaining a blogging presence and creative for viral campaigns.

Daniel Jupp, director of Top Position said, “The ability to leverage social media as part of an ethical search engine optimisation campaign is a skill increasingly demanded by our clients. We’ve found that businesses are anxious to eke out every possible sales and brand exposure opportunity from their online activities. Developing and leveraging this niche outlet has become a real priority for our SEO team and one that has seen us introduce a dedicated social media team to consistently introduce new outlets and opportunities for clients.”
