http://www.doverst.co.uk/experience.php

There was a time when dining in a French restaurant was a formal, perhaps even stuffy affair. The food may have been excellent, the service highly attentive (if bordering on intimidating), and the wine list impressive, but it may not have been a particularly relaxed evening out. All that has changed since Dover Street Restaurant & Jazz Bar became known as a great French restaurant in London as well as a great jazz venue.

Many know Dover Street as one of the best places to see live jazz in London, thanks to its nightly programme of some of the best Jazz, Swing, Latin, Soul and Funk bands on offer in the capital. Some know it as a great place to spot celebrities: jazz fans can mingle at the bar with the likes of model Caprice and singer Mica Paris. But more and more people are going to Dover Street for the fantastic French/Mediterranean cuisine that is available at surprisingly affordable prices. The ambience of the restaurant lends itself to being a great place for corporate events, while its West End location and late opening times make it a perfect pre theatre restaurant.

The Dover Street menu is a tantalizing mix of simple, traditional, classic and modern dishes with a Mediterranean flavour and made with French flair. Typical fare includes poached haddock served on a bed of creamed potato with saffron and mussel cream topped with a poached egg, medallions of Maine lobster and sautéed fillet of pork. The wine list is as diverse and expertly picked as you would expect from a Mayfair restaurant, offering excellent wines from both the new and the old world.

The standards of the food served at Dover Street, and the service provided, is to very high standards, but there is no stuffy atmosphere here. The restaurant has managed to strike a great balance between a stylish, upmarket French restaurant and a great place to relax and enjoy live music; in effect totally avoiding the intimidatingly formal dining experience. With last orders in the kitchen taken at a very civilised 2am and the restaurant closing at 3am, the dining experience can go hand in hand with the listening experience, all through the night.

The overall experience of combining a great French restaurant with one of the most popular late night jazz venues in the capital is tangible enough to be named. The Dover Street Experience sums up the unique mix that the restaurant/bar/venue offers: a stylish place to dine, a cool place to hang out at the bar, and a jumping place to listen to some of the best live jazz. Get your slice of the experience and book a table at www.doverst.co.uk.

30 Years of Jazz in the Heart of Mayfair

Dover Street Restaurant and Jazz Bar has been bringing world-class jazz to the heart of Mayfair for nearly 30 years. Founded in 1979, the restaurant/bar has become one of the most popular jazz venues in London, providing great music, an atmospheric bar and top quality French/Mediterranean cuisine to the discerning crowds of Mayfair in London.

There has been live jazz in London since the first smoky clubs started popping up in the 1950s, with the bars and nightclubs of Soho enjoying their heyday in the swinging 60s. Since then jazz music has been welcomed into the mainstream, having its own radio stations and whole sections of high street music stores devoted to it. With this huge swell in popularity has come a great increase in the number of jazz venues in London.

Dover Street Restaurant and Jazz Bar opened at the end of the 1970s and has since become known for its high-end, well-heeled clientele, stylish décor and some of the best live music in London. Recent years have seen Dover Street become a favourite late night venue; its doors open until 3am Monday until Saturday with last orders in the restaurant at a very European 2am. These generous opening hours all through the week, along with the prestigious West End location, have seen it become a popular pre theatre restaurant.

Originally one of the first wine bars in London, the venue has grown from a capacity of 150 to 450 to house the introduction of live music; it can now accommodate up to ten-piece bands, while never having sacrificed that intimate feel that Dover Street has become known for. This intimacy also makes it a very relaxing dining experience, yet another string to Dover Street’s bow. While it’s cool ambience and stylish patrons are entirely fitting with its location, this is a Mayfair restaurant with a difference. The Dover Street Experience combines excellent dining (thanks to a menu that rivals any French restaurant in London), a late-night bar and some of the best live jazz in London.

Over the years, the Dover Street Restaurant and Jazz Bar has grown organically from a small, successful wine bar into a well-known, highly respected and sought-after hotspot; home to romantic soirees, celebrity diners, corporate events and – of course – jazz music fans. The team behind Dover Street has been providing this unique experience for nearly thirty years, and it looks like they’ll be doing so for many successful years to come.
